Living, Loving, Leading & Leaving an Authentic Legacy

Welcome to Season Two of the True Self Mastery Podcast.

One year ago, on August 8, 2025, I released my first official episode of this podcast. Today, on August 8, 2026, I am beginning Season Two with a clearer and deeper vision for the work of True Self Mastery.

There is also a beautiful synchronicity to beginning again on 8•8. In numerology, the number eight is associated with personal power, abundance, balance, achievement, and bringing our visions and intentions into tangible form. August 8 is also celebrated in many contemporary spiritual traditions as Lion's Gate, a symbolic invitation to reflect, consciously choose what we are ready to leave behind, and consider what we are ready to create and embody next.

In this episode, I introduce the four interconnected areas that will become the heart of True Self Mastery moving forward:

Authentic Living

Who am I?

What is true for me?

What do I value?

What is my purpose, message, and vision?

What does my body need in order to thrive?

What kind of life is genuinely mine to live?

Authentic Loving

How do I remain true to myself in relationship?

How do I love without abandoning myself?

How do I create relationships where truth, love, intimacy, boundaries, and authenticity can coexist?

Authentic Leading

What am I here to contribute?

What gifts have I been entrusted with?

How am I meant to use my voice?

How do I lead, serve, create, and influence from a place of authenticity and integrity?

Authentic Legacy

What will remain because I was here?

What wisdom, love, beauty, values, contribution, and impact am I here to transmit?

Am I consciously creating my legacy, or simply leaving one accidentally?

We also explore one of the most powerful questions at the heart of this work:

If I only get this one precious life, how do I make sure I actually live mine?

Bronnie Ware, who spent years caring for people toward the end of their lives, wrote about the regrets she heard most frequently. The most common regret she described was wishing they had had the courage to live a life true to themselves rather than the life others expected of them.

And over this past year, I have become increasingly aware of what feels like a growing hunger for authenticity.

We want lives that actually feel like our lives.

Relationships where we can tell the truth and remain ourselves.

Leadership that is courageous, trustworthy, human, and congruent.

Work that means something.

Wellbeing rooted in listening to our own bodies.

And lives that reflect what we genuinely value.

Season Two will explore all four dimensions of True Self Mastery, but we are beginning where everything else begins:

Authentic Living.

In the coming weeks, we will explore authenticity, conditioning, inner authority, self trust, purpose, values, vision, authentic wellness, conscious creation, and the practical art of building a life that reflects who you truly are.

This episode also includes a short True Self contemplation to help you slow down, listen inwardly, and ask:

Who am I becoming more willing to be?

Where in my life do I already know what is true?

What does my body know?

What matters most to me now?

What am I ready to leave behind?

What wants to be created through me?

And if I trusted myself just a little bit more, what might I do differently?

Season Two And The 8-8 Portal

SPEAKER_01

Welcome to season two, episode one of the True Self-Mastery Podcast. I am your hostess, Anne Van Deewater, and I am so happy to be here with you today. Today feels like a particularly beautiful and meaningful day to begin season two because almost exactly one year ago I began this podcast. I released the Welcome to the True Self-Mastery podcast episode on July 26th of last year, which is synchronistically the first day of the Mayan calendar new year. And then my very first official episode was released on August 8th, 2025. And today is August 8th, 2026. So here we are, one year later. And there's a beautiful synchronicity in the numbers today. It is 8-8. And the 26 in 2026 also reduces to 8. So for me, there's this wonderful 888 symbolism to the day. In numerology, the number 8 is often associated with power, abundance, balance, achievement, personal authority, and our capacity to bring something from the invisible world of vision and intention into tangible form. And I particularly love the image of the number eight turned on its side, becoming the infinity symbol, this continual movement between the inner and the outer, spirit and matter, vision and creation, receiving and giving, being and doing. And August 8th is also celebrated in many contemporary spiritual traditions as the peak of what is commonly called the Lion's Gate. It occurs during Leo season and is symbolically associated with the star Sirius, the Lion, the heart, courage, creativity, transformation, and consciously choosing what we want to bring forward into our lives. And whether Lion's Gate is part of your own spiritual language or not really doesn't matter. What I love is the invitation, an invitation to stop, to become present, to reflect, to complete what is complete, to consciously choose what we want to carry forward, and perhaps to ask ourselves, what am I ready to leave behind? What am I ready to embody more fully? What wants to be created through me now? And who am I becoming more willing to be? And while I love meaningful dates, numbers, astrology, human design, spiritual traditions, and all of the beautiful systems that can help us reflect and understand ourselves more deeply, I don't believe our authority resides in any of them. Our authority ultimately resides within us. We can allow something outside of us to become a mirror. We can allow it to inspire a question, we can allow it to awaken something, but ultimately we are the ones who have to listen. We are the ones who have to choose, and we are the ones who have to live our lives. And that brings me directly to what feels so meaningful about beginning season two today. Because over this past year, my own understanding of true self-mastery has become clearer, simpler, and deeper. And the heart of this work has organized itself around four fundamental areas: authentic living, authentic loving, authentic leading, and authentic legacy. Living as your true self, loving as your true self, leading as your true self, and ultimately creating a legacy that is an authentic expression of who you truly are. And that is what we are going to explore together in this next season of the True Self-Mastery Podcast.

Arrive In Your Body

SPEAKER_01

But before we go any further, let's arrive. If you're driving or walking, of course, simply keep doing exactly what you are doing. But if you're somewhere where you can become a little more still, allow yourself to feel the support beneath you. Feel your feet, relax your shoulders, soften your jaw, take a slow breath in, and a long, easy breath out. And for these next few moments, allow yourself to remember that there's nowhere else you need to be. There's nothing you need to prove, nothing you need to perform, nothing you need to become. You simply get to be here as you are.

Defining True Self-Mastery

SPEAKER_01

So what is true self-mastery? I've been contemplating the idea of the true self for most of my life. Who are we underneath everything we've learned to be? Who are we underneath the roles, the expectations, the conditioning, the accomplishments, the disappointments, the identities, the adaptations we made in order to belong? Who are you before you begin asking everybody else what they think you should be and should do? Who are you before you begin comparing, performing, proving, pleasing? And what happens when you actually begin living from that place? For me, true self-mastery does not mean becoming perfect. It doesn't mean reaching some final destination where you suddenly have everything figured out. Mastery is a practice, it's a relationship, it's becoming increasingly intimate with your own truth and increasingly willing to live from it. It's learning to recognize the difference between conditioning and knowing, between fear and wisdom, between something you've been taught to want and something you genuinely desire. It's learning to fully inhabit your body, to listen, to know what nourishes you, to know what depletes you, to recognize what is yours and what isn't, to know your values, to understand your gifts, to honor your needs, to recognize your desires, to tell yourself the truth. And then little by little, choice by choice, to create a life that actually reflects that truth. That to me is true self-mastery.

The Cost Of Living Untrue

SPEAKER_01

Why does authenticity matter? There's another reason this work feels especially important to me right now. Bronny Ware spent years caring for people toward the end of their lives and later wrote about the regrets that she heard most often from the people she cared for. And the most common regret she described was essentially this: that they wished they had had the courage to live a life that was true to themselves rather than the life other people expected them to live. Every time I encounter that idea, it stops me. Because imagine reaching the end of this extraordinary life and realizing that you spent too much of it becoming who you thought you were supposed to be, living according to expectations that were never really yours, making choices because they were acceptable or impressive or safe or familiar or expected, staying quiet when something inside of you wanted to speak, staying somewhere you knew you had outgrown, ignoring what your body was communicating, abandoning a dream, suppressing a gift, saying yes when some deeper part of you knew the answer was no, or becoming so accustomed to looking outside of yourself for direction that you slowly lost touch with the person who was living inside of you all along. I don't want that for myself, and I don't want that for you. And one thing that has become incredibly clear to me over this past year is that I believe there is a growing hunger for authenticity. I see it in all the people I work with. I hear it in conversations, I feel it in the questions people are asking. People want to live lives that actually feel like their lives. They want relationships in which they can tell the truth and remain themselves. They want partners and friendships where authenticity and love can coexist. They want leaders who are real, trustworthy, courageous, human, congruent. They want work that means something. They want to use their gifts. They want well-being that is rooted in actually listening to their own bodies rather than endlessly trying to force themselves into somebody else's formula for health or happiness. They want to know what they value, they want to know what they are here to contribute, they want to feel that their lives matter. And increasingly, I think so many of us are asking a much deeper question. If I only get this one precious life, how do I make sure I actually live mine? That question sits at the very heart of true self-mastery, because authenticity isn't simply about self-expression. It's about alignment, it's about bringing who you truly are into the way you live, the way you love, the way you lead, the choices you make, the way you care for yourself, the things you create, and ultimately the legacy you leave behind.

The Four Practices Of Authenticity

SPEAKER_01

And that is why this next chapter of my work is centered around four interconnected practices.

Authentic Living And Inner Authority

SPEAKER_01

Authentic living. The first is authentic living, and really everything begins here. Authentic living asks, who am I? What is true for me? What do I actually value? What matters to me now? What is my purpose? What are my values? What is my message? What is my vision for my life? What does my body need in order to thrive? What does well-being look like for me? What wants to be expressed through me? What do I want to create? And what kind of life feels genuinely harmonious with who I am now? Authentic living is about coming home to yourself. It's about developing your own inner authority and living in alignment with the way that you are naturally designed to live. It's about developing your own inner authority, and that doesn't mean that we never seek support. Of course we do. We can listen to wise teachers, we can learn from experts, we can receive guidance, we can study systems, we can ask for counsel, we can allow ourselves to be supported, but ultimately nobody else can live your life for you. Nobody else inhabits your body. Nobody else has your unique design or operating system. Nobody else possesses your exact history, temperament, gifts, sensitivities, desires, wisdom, and calling. At some point, we have to develop the courage to listen inwardly. And then we have to develop the courage to live what we hear. That is authentic living.

Authentic Loving Without Self-Abandonment

SPEAKER_01

Authentic loving. Then we come to authentic loving. Because it's one thing to know yourself when you're alone, it's another thing entirely to remain yourself in relationship. Authentic loving asks: can I love you without abandoning me? Can I tell the truth and remain connected? Can I express what I truly need? Can I truly receive love? Can I have clear boundaries without closing my heart? Can I honor what is true for you without betraying what is true for me? Can we create relationships in which both people become more fully themselves rather than less? This applies to intimate partnership, friendships, family, parenting, professional relationships, community, but an authentic love does not require self-abandonment, and authenticity does not require disconnection. I am deeply interested in that meeting place where truth and love coexist, where intimacy doesn't mean losing ourselves, where boundaries don't mean withholding love, where we can love one another as human beings, and we can love each other as human beings who still remain in right relationship with ourselves. That's authentic loving.

Authentic Leading Through Congruence

SPEAKER_01

Authentic leading. Then there is authentic leading. And when I use the word leadership, I don't mean only running a company or standing on a stage. Leadership is influence, leadership is stewardship. Leadership is the way we bring who we are into the world. You may lead a family, a business, a classroom, a healing practice, a community, a creative project, a conversation. You may never call yourself a leader and still profoundly influence the people around you. Authentic leading asks, what am I here to contribute? What gifts have I been entrusted with? How am I meant to use my voice? What do I stand for? What am I willing to take responsibility for? How do I lead without performing? How do I create success without abandoning my health, my relationships, my values, or my humanity? How do I become a steward rather than simply a striver? Authentic leadership is not about becoming more impressive, it's about becoming more congruent. Your values and your behavior begin matching. Your inner life and your outer life begin matching. Who you say you are and how you actually live begin matching. That is powerful leadership.

Authentic Legacy You Create Now

SPEAKER_01

Authentic legacy. And then we arrive at authentic legacy. Legacy is sometimes misunderstood as something we think about only toward the end of life. But I don't see it that way at all. Your legacy is being created right now, in the way you love people, in the way you care for your body, in the way you conduct your business, in the way you use your money, and the way you share your wisdom, and the art you make, and the things you teach, and the way people feel after being with you, in the traditions you create, in the values you transmit, in the courage you model, in what you heal, in what you repair, and in what you complete, and in what you consciously choose to leave behind. Authentic legacy asks, what will remain because I was here? What have I learned that is worth transmitting? What do I want the people I love to know? What do I want my work to contribute? What do I want to create that can continue beyond me? How do I want people to feel because our lives touched? And perhaps most importantly, am I creating my legacy consciously or am I simply leaving one accidentally? This is why we begin with authentic living. Over the coming months and years, these four areas are going to become the central conversation here on the True Self-Mastery Podcast. Living, loving, bleeding, and legacy. And when we put all four together, it becomes the north star of our lives. But we're going to begin exactly where I believe we need to begin with authentic living. Because everything else grows from our relationship with ourselves. How can I create an authentic relationship if I don't know what is true for me? How can I lead authentically if I don't know what I value? How can I create an authentic legacy if I've spent my life living according to someone else's definition of success? So we begin with ourselves. And over the coming weeks, we're going to explore questions like what does it actually mean to be authentic? How do we become disconnected from ourselves? How does conditioning affect the choices we make? How do we rebuild self-trust? How do we understand what our bodies are communicating? What are our real values? What is purpose? What is our purpose? What is our message? What is our vision? What does authentic well-being look like? How do we create lives that support our physical, emotional, mental, relational, and spiritual vitality? And how do we consciously create our lives from alignment rather than from fear, pressure, comparison, habit or expectation? Because authenticity is not an abstract spiritual idea. It affects what you eat, who you marry, and how you work, where you live, how you spend your time, what you say yes to, what you say no to, how you care for yourself, what you tolerate, what you create, what you contribute, and what you decide is no longer available in your life. Authenticity becomes very practical when we actually live it.

Guided Self-Trust Contemplation

SPEAKER_01

So here's a true self contemplation. I want to finish today's episode by giving you a few moments to come home to yourself. Again, if you are driving, please simply listen. Otherwise, perhaps place one hand somewhere on your body, maybe your heart, your belly. Your chest anywhere that feels natural. Take a slow breath in and exhale. Again, breathe in. And let the exhale be just a little bit longer. Feel the support beneath you. Allow your shoulders to soften. Allow yourself to be here. And remember, you do not need to figure out your entire life right now. You don't need to know every answer. You don't have to force clarity. For these few moments, your only job is to listen and gently ask yourself, who am I becoming more willing to be? Where in my life do I already know what is true? Where might I be asking other people to give me an answer that some part of me already knows?

SPEAKER_00

What does my body know? What matters most to me now? What am I ready to leave behind? What wants to be created through me?

SPEAKER_01

And if I trusted myself just a little bit more, what might I do differently? Take another slow breath in and exhale. There's nothing you need to force. Simply notice what arose. Maybe it was a word, a feeling, an image, a memory, a knowing. Perhaps nothing obvious came at all. That's okay too. This is a relationship we are cultivating. Your relationship with yourself, with your true self. And like every meaningful relationship, it deepens through attention, through listening, through honesty, through trust, and through showing yourself over and over again that when you hear your truth, you are willing to honor it. So as you move through this week, I invite you to practice returning to yourself before immediately reaching for the outside answer and pause.

SPEAKER_00

Listen. Feel ask yourself what do I know?

SPEAKER_01

You are allowed to receive wisdom from the world without giving your authority away to the world.
